Why Recognizing the Limits of Experience Is Essential

This is not an argument against experience or institutional knowledge. Experienced leaders have pattern recognition that models cannot replicate. Historical context informs judgment in ways that current data alone cannot.

But experience is only valuable when it remains calibrated to changing conditions. And calibration requires evidence—not selectively chosen data points that confirm what we want to believe, but rigorous analysis that challenges assumptions and surfaces disconfirming signals.
